Flaner is the best French verb. It is a needed occupation. I used to worry desperately about wasting time because I saw myself as basically lazy (which I am) and also saw my time-wasting as proof of a second-rate brain (which I also have). Perhaps I also felt it was sinful because such a pleasure. I now think it is as necessary as solitude; that's how the compost heap grows in the mind. Anyway I intend to spend the rest of my life wasting time.
