MEDITATION

He only is wise who devotes himself to realizing, not reading only, the ancient revelations. Solve all your problems through meditation. Exchange unprofitable speculations for actual God-communion.

Clear your mind of dogmatic theological debris; let in the fresh, healing waters of direct perception. Attune yourself to the active inner guidance; the Divine Voice has the answer to every dilemma of life.

-- Lahiri Mahasaya

First, think of people all over the world -- all kinds of people at all kinds of occupations. In each one of them, and in all matter, is this Reality, this Atman, which is also inside myself. And what is 'myself"? Am I my body? Am I my mind? Am I my thoughts? What can I find within myself which is eternal? Let me examine my thoughts and see how they reflect this Atman.

-- Swami Prabhvananda's instruction to Christopher Isherwood

It is important for you not to let yourselves be conditioned by an attitude that prevents you from meditating upon, absorbing and savoring the beautiful things created by God and by mankind. Indeed, a receptive, meditative frame of mind leads not only to the recovery of bodily strength but to the purification of the spirit. And this inner world of silence is a privileged state for establishing a true relationship with other people and with our Lord and Creator.
