We need to educate people who can move from place to place. We cannot just tear down the walls of ethnicity. Those walls are there for good reason. There is a fine history of Asian-American Theatre, Black Theatre, Gay Theatre, Latino Theatre, Women's Theatre, White Mainstream Theatre, and so on. Some have been around longer than others. Time is not the issue. We must capture this moment, wherever we are now, whatever ground, behind whatever fortress, and we must encourage fabulous, passionate, good-humored, bright-eyed people to get in boats, small boats, row boats, boats that carry only one person in some cases, two or three in others, and help them push off, help them move out of the sand so that they can move from fortress to fortress. Ambassadors, explorers.
