TOUGH JOBS

Three days before Christmas, 29-year-old Anthony Baez died in police custody. It was a tragedy that may also have been a crime: A grand jury will decide whether his death, which doctors ruled a medical "homicide," was also murder. Within 24 hours, at the request of Baez's widow, Mirabel, Dr. Peter Schlegel did something apparently unprecedented: He flushed and froze sperm from the body of Baez so that the dead man could, in the future, become a father.
