FREUD

Psychological "normality" is defined not by one's sexual orientation but by one's capacity to love and to work, pathology by diminished capacity for enjoyment and effectiveness. On several occasions Freud remarks that, rather than being "degenerate," homosexuals often seem to have a special aptitude for cultural sublimation, to be "characterized by a special development of their social instinctual impulses and by their devotion to the interests of the community."
