If this soul burns with
desire, if she prays without ceasing, if her whole being goes out towards the Word, then suddenly it seems that she hears His voice
without seeing Him; that is she savors inwardly the odor of his Divinity, which thing often comes to those who are strong of faith. Suddenly the soul’s
sense of smell is filled with spiritual grace, and being aware of a sweet breath that tells her of the presence of Him whom she seeks, she says: Behold Him whom I
seek and whom I desire.
